We’re thrilled that the lineup for our 2017 festival—our 19th annual, and the first in our new home, The Parkway—offers so many incredible emerging films from all over the world. It’s a particular honor to deliver the world premieres of two excellent features, Stephen Cone’s coming-of-age drama Princess Cyd and Josh Crockett’s dark comedy Dr. Brinks & Dr. Brinks; as well as the U.S. premieres of Hugh Gibson’s poignant documentary The Stairs and Ashley McKenzie’s visceral drama Werewolf.
MdFF 2017 also stands as an incredible year for Baltimore films. Our lineup includes the area premieres of outstanding, highly anticipated features by Baltimoreans such as Theo Anthony’s Rat Film (featuring an original score by Dan Deacon), Albert Birney and Kentucker Audley’s Sylvio, and Ramona S. Diaz’s Motherland; documentaries that touch down in Baltimore like Finding Joseph I: The HR From Bad Brains Documentary and Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities; and work presented by major talents in our cultural scene, including Beach House, John Waters, and Matt Porterfield.
