2019 BLACK FEMME SUPREMACY FESTIVAL

The BFS Film Fest was a festival that spanned three days and featured over 50 films including narratives, documentaries, music videos, web series, and experimental films. The festival aimed to center Black Femme filmmakers and re-envision the Black Femme as a global protagonist, empowering their stories through film. In addition to screening films that face systemic barriers of sexism, racism, and classism, BFS Film Fest fostered an intentional community of filmmakers and film-lovers alike.

WORLD CINEMA CAFÉ

JAN 2019 – DEC 2022

World Cinema Café was a free weekly community screening series held in the SNF Parkway’s historic main theatre, offering a cross-section of historical and contemporary cinema from around the globe. Featuring films on the periphery and movies that break the canon – intentionally or by circumstance – World Cinema Café pointed to a new vision in filmmaking. Fall 2022 explored cinema from Iran and the Iranian diaspora.

SIGHT UNSEEN

Sight Unseen was a Baltimore-based film series focusing on contemporary image-based work that explored innovative ways of working with materiality, sound & narrative. Launched in 2012, Sight Unseen was curated by Margaret Rorison.

SUNDANCE 2022: FROM PARK CITY TO CHARM CITY

JAN 2022 

The SNF Parkway was a Satellite Screen partner for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Seven independently owned arthouse cinemas across the United States connected the Festival and its artists directly with local audiences, showing a specially-curated selection from the Festival’s official program during the Festival’s closing weekend, Friday, January 28, through Sunday, January 30, 2022.

SWEATY EYEBALLS ANIMATION FESTIVAL

Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival is a juried international festival of the world’s most boundary-pushing, mind-blowing animation programmed and organized by animator and educator, Phil Davis. The mission of Sweaty Eyeballs is to showcase unique, experimental and diverse voices in the field of animated filmmaking with a focus on innovation in craft, storytelling and work that questions preconceived notions of what animation can and should be.

BREAKING CODES

DEC 2022

Breaking Codes was a weekend-long event that highlighted emerging moving image makers who are building radical, expansive, and wholly new definitions of cinematic form. This year we were thrilled to welcome Nick Briz, NIA JUNE, and Amina Ross to explore their work over the course of four free events.

HARD CANDY CHRISTMAS

Handy Candy Christmas was a series highlighting four stories of Christmas chaos to add to the holiday celebration. Spanning different styles and genres, from magical realism to creature feature, these movies showcased what happens when the most wonderful time of the year is horrible.
