“To eat good food is to be close to God,” asserts one of the main characters in this sumptuous classic—perhaps the greatest food film of all time— about two Italian-American brothers struggling to save their failing restaurant in the face of culture clash, stiff competition, brotherly love and uncompromising standards. Roger Ebert wrote that it “is about food not as a subject but as a language—the language by which one can speak to gods, can create, can seduce, can aspire to perfection.” Everyman Theatre Founding Artistic Director Vincent M. Lancisi (director of AUBERGINE) will introduce the screening and host an informal discussion following the film.
Everyman at the Parkway is a six-part film series presented in partnership with the Maryland Film Festival, bringing influential films to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway in conjunction with Everyman Theatre’s 2017/18 season. A perceptive and lyrical exploration of the act of cooking as a form of expression, AUBERGINE (on stage March 14 – April 15, 2017) is a mouthwatering mediation on the beauty of life where hope is no mere ingredient—it’s the main course.
