New World follows undercover cop Ja-sung ( Lee Jung-jae ) as he dives deep into a dark and dangerous underworld of thugs and killers. When the leader of the Goldmoon crime syndicate is killed, a political power struggle ensues and Ja-sung is torn between loyalties to two bosses: Goldmoon’s number two, Jung Chung ( Hwang Jung-min ), and police director Kang Hyung-chul ( Choi Min-sik) . For Ja-sung, there might be no easy way out of this mess, but he is determined to do things his own way in a world where no one is what they seem.
Director Park Hoon-jung ’s stylish gangster epic New World (2013) received some top awards, including the Star Award for Lee Jung-jae from the Korean Association of Film Critics and Best Actor for Hwang Jung-min at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, plus a slew of international festival screenings, including at San Sebastian International Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival and the New York Asian Film Festival.
