Shorts 365

A year-round slate of diverse short film programs, encompassing theatrical runs, curated collections, and open submissions.

Over the years, festival audiences and filmmakers alike have come to expect great shorts programs at our five-day Maryland Film Festival. This year, we focus on the shorts form and shorts filmmakers to build a broader, year-round audience for shorts and position Baltimore as the regional destination to view, present and make short films. We celebrate this versatile format and its content creators with a variety of programs — from theatrical presentations of Sundance Shorts and Oscar Documentary Shorts, to special newsreel presentations of Kahlil Joseph’s BLKNWS series and shorts paired with features, to a new monthly curated series, Breaking Codes, dedicated to the rich practices of emerging filmmakers, who are building radical, expansive and wholly new definitions of cinematic form.

Stay tuned for the debut of our monthly Shorts 10×10 open submission, more BaltiShorts, Strand Distribution’s 30/30 Vision program featuring minute long shorts by prominent directors, and much more, as we celebrate short format cinematic storytelling 365 days of the year!

Over 30 filmmakers and friends of Strand Releasing have come together to honor the company’s indelible contribution to independent cinema over the past thirty years. The participating filmmakers have each created a short film for the project entitled ‘30/30 VISION: Three Decades of Strand Releasing’. The films were all shot on iPhones. The program is produced by Strand and filmmaker Connor Jessup.
